Join Our Staff as a Volunteer or Employee or Come as a Work Team
Have you ever felt a calling to work in medical missions? Opportunities abound at Cross Road to contribute your time, skills and enthusiasm to assist or provide relief for regular staff.
Of special note is the need for skilled tradesmen and handymen. Maintenance work on our Glennallen campus is ongoing throughout the year. But new construction and large maintenance projects are organized for the relatively short summer construction season. We could use your help!
Short-term projects for volunteer work teams with specific skills or to help with general projects are appreciated. We do ongoing fire mitigation work and use the trees in our wood boilers. Help cutting trees, stacking wood and cleaning up are examples of ways to help.
For more information, browse to our Opportunities webpage and contact our Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, Bob Sloma, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 907-822-5686 Mon-Fri to inquire about current opportunities.
Donate Non-Medical Supplies for Patients
Looking for great projects for your missions committee, Sunday School group or Vacation Bible School? Maybe you have a personal talent or gift to share. We'd love to have your help! Please contact Karen Medendorp at 907-822-5686 or email us at email@example.com for more information regarding in-kind needs. Some current needs are:
- stickers for young patients
- coloring pages and crayons
- family friendly DVD's for extended care patients or their visiting family members
- Bibles or tracts
- DVD’s that just play peaceful music with outdoor pictures (for extended stay patients)
- sturdy cleanable board books for the waiting room
- cleanable wooden puzzles and movable bead toys (table top) for the waiting room
- devotion/inspirational reading books for different age groups that can be given away (especially some books on hope, worry, stress).
Current Projects and Programs
A donation of any amount will help us with these ongoing programs:
Copper River Valley Mobile Health Program
Nurses Davanea and Megan, plus a provider and/or social worker when needed, make home visits. A goal of the program is helping people stay in their home and be independent right up until their death. Working with the patient, their family and friends, this can be possible!
Traveling School Nurse Program
Our school nurse, Sara covers three schools in the Copper River School District. Children in grades K, 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 receive state mandated hearing and vision screening each year. Our nurse makes referrals for those needing follow-up and works with the local Lion’s Club to get glasses for those in need.
Sara also teaches various health-specific classes for different ages, does TB testing, provides fluoride rinses, manages care plans, does education for patients with special health needs, tracks immunizations... and provides help for the sick and a listening ear to those who need it.
Bariatric Stretcher for Cross Road Medical Center
Cost: $5000 | Raised: $0
A bariatric stretcher is designed to move large patients with less risk of injury to the patient
and health care staff. It is longer and much wider than a regular stretcher.
Standby Power Generator for Interior Alaska Medical Clinic
Cost: $10,000+ | Raised: $0
Our Delta Junction facility is subject to power outages several times per year. A standby AC power
generator will allow the clinic and pharmacy to continue to serve patients during area-wide power outages and protect the clinic and
pharmacy equipment and refrigerated medical supplies.
Fixed X-ray Equipment Repair for Cross Road Medical Center
Cost: $60,000 | Raised: $0
The fixed x-ray equipment at our Glennallen clinic needs some TLC. We're looking for funds to replace
two components that have become increasingly unreliable over the last few months: the x-ray table and x-ray tube.
Major Renovations for North County Clinic
Cost: unknown | Raised: $0
Funding is needed to
either extensively renovate or replace the current North Country Clinic cabin in Grizzly Lake.
